Philip Island

On Philip Island, south of Melbourne, we visited a Heritage Farm, Wildlife Farm, took a boat to "Seal Island" and watched the nighttime penguin parade. On our little trip was: Brad, Claire, April, Todd, Mandy, me and Mark. We got to feed, by hand, horses, sheep, wallabies, kangaroos, emu, etc. Check out the mama kangaroo and her joey. It was amazing to be that close to kangaroos (very soft fur!) and feel their claws on your arms and hands holding them in place so they can feed from your palm. They were very gentle but very hungry! On the boat trip, we sent to see an island of seals and watched them play in the water. The day was capped off by watching penguins make their daily trip from sea to sand dunes to nest for the evening. Aussie animals are so entertaining!

Sunday- HOT!

Sunday was extremely hot here- finally. We went kayaking in Sandringham, then hit the beach in Port Melbourne. Mark made some friends and played a few rounds of volley ball with the Aussies.

Getting There

Happy Birthday Mark! We took the holiday (Australia Day) long weekend to enjoy the Great Ocean Road and Twelve Apostles. We spent 2 nights at a B&B in the town of Glenaire in the Otways National Forest. The B&B overlooked a hilly mountain range and ocean; a wallaby was a frequent morning guest. Past the Twelve Apostles was Loch Ard Gorge (named after an Irish immigrant ship that sank in the gorge), Mutton Island, and more islands out in the sea. We also spent time at Triplet Falls and the "Fly" bridge in the Otways- which is an elevated walking tour of the rainforest. Since Mark and I both are not a fan of heights we wondered what we were doing there? We returned to the apostles for sunset after making it as far as Warrambool for seafood. We made our way home Monday cruising down the GOR spying Koalas right and left, then through Apollo Bay again, Lorne and home!
A great 3 days! (The pictures are a bit out of order)
